The postgraduate department of Osh State University was opened on August 22, 1991, by order No. 399/1 of the Ministry of Public Education of the Kyrgyz SSR.

In different years, the Department of Postgraduate Studies, then the Department of Science and Postgraduate Studies of Osh State University, was led by various distinguished individuals, including Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Osmonaliev K.O., Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor Mamytov S.A., Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor Sulaimanov Zh.M., Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Sabirova V.K., Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Oskonbaev M.Ch., Senior Lecturer MM. Sadyrova, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Zakirov A.Z., and Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Anarbaeva G.M.

Since its inception, the department has seen over a thousand individuals complete postgraduate studies, with more than 800 successfully defending their dissertations. Associate Professor G.M. Anarbaeva served as the head of the postgraduate department for many years, leading it fruitfully. Under her leadership, in 2022, the postgraduate department of Osh State University became the first in the country to receive a license to train scientific personnel in 101 specialties across 15 areas. Since 2014, Osh State University has hosted the annual regional student scientific conference "Student and Scientific and Technical Progress," with conference materials published in the journal "Bulletin of Osh State University."

Currently, approximately 300 graduate students are studying and conducting research in the graduate school. The scientific supervisors of postgraduate students include 115 scientists, among whom 110 are doctors of science and professors, while 5 are candidates and associate professors. Of the scientists from Osh State University, 45 doctors and professors, along with 2 candidates and associate professors, supervise the
scientific work of graduate students. Additionally, 45 doctors of sciences and professors from other educational institutions, educational and scientific centers, along with 3 candidates of sciences and associate professors, have been involved in the scientific leadership.

The graduate school organizes various events such as scientific and practical conferences, trainings, seminars, and round tables on various aspects of modern science, as well as the organization of research work, preparation, and publication of scientific articles in reputable publications. Furthermore, the department coordinates research work for students.

As part of the strategic development program of Osh State University for 2023-2026, the graduate school is intensifying and expanding research activities, developing and implementing scientific projects aimed at addressing socio-economic challenges of the city and region, integrating into the international scientific community, and fostering the training of young scientific personnel.
